In 1911, Edward Etzweiler purchased a furniture store and mortuary in Wrightsville, Pennsylvania. In 1928, his son, Marlyn, expanded the family business and opened a funeral home in York. In 1962, the Wrightsville funeral home was moved to its present location at 700 Hellam Street.

The York community response to the firm's caring attention grew steadily. During the Second World War, Marlyn Etzweiler purchased the former home of J.A. Singer, heir to the Singer Sewing Machine Company. The firm is still located at 1111 East Market Street.
